Al Alvarado Saxophonist, Flutist, Bassist, Vocalist, Composer
While living near Oxford, England, Al recorded the single "Part Time Lover" with Total Control Records, a song that went to number 7 in the United Kingdom. Al composed two songs for Jones & Company’s Artistic License release and was featured on Cheryl Jones’s hit “Summerdays”. Al has shared a stage with such jazz notables as Bill Waltrous, Milt Hinton, Clark Terry, Don Menza & Nick Brignola, to name a few. He’s also performed live shows with legendary James Brown drummer John ‘Jabo’ Starkes.
Al currently resides in Northwest Florida where he is a first-call studio musician, keeping a very busy studio schedule performing on many pop, rock, jazz and contemporary Christian recordings. He has more than 200 studio projects under his belt and averages about 40 studio calls per year. He has also been sought, by name, to perform for several professional sporting events. The most rewarding gigs Al performs are workshops with junior high, high school and college bands, focusing on individuality and expression as a soloist and with a horn section. He develops an easy rapport with young people and enjoys being a positive influence in their lives. "Who knows," he was once overheard saying, " I may kindle the spark in the next John Coltrane!" Al is currently working in the studio on JONES & COMPANY’s third CD release, scheduled for availability by early summer 2001. He’s also maintaining a very busy touring schedule of live performances throughout the Gulf Coast region. He continues to be one of the areas most sought after free-lance studio musicians.
